To be honest, Xuying isn't ... really sure how he ended up in this sort-of high-end, sort-of not-really kind of masquerade ball. Something-something about filling in for another, one of the fleeting acquaintances he made while browsing one of those novel (not really) technology and media stores. The other has bought him a new laptop in exchange for the scientist attending, so ... hey. Yeah. Why not? He can mingle with some strangers that he won't even have to remember, with all this masks thing. At least it hasn't required him to get much more than a mask after brushing off some of his better clothes, a strange conundrum that reminds of a science laboratory - of the fragility of butterfrees, something lined in gold, warm greys and ashen white.[break]

He doesn't look that bad, he doesn't think, but it's not like he is dying to leave an impression. Instead, he just enjoys the glass of orange juice that he got from the bartender, having wrestled it out of their hands with a delightful smile over their grimace, swirling the contents of the glass as he sighs. "What a boring facade ..." And for how long is that supposed to go on again?

considering the last time seiichi had ended up at something even vaguely masquerade-related, it would probably be a better decision to not be here. which meant that he was going to be here, because there was no way he was going to let the moment slip for any reason other than his health.

this time, at least, the party is fuller, and it's easy enough to get lost in the crowd. which also means there's less of a chance of things going south for him in particular again. probably. hopefully.

graham, decorated neatly in a service pokemon vest, sticks by his side as he navigates the crowd in a bejweled, feathered, eye-catching (or eyesore, depending on who you asked) purple mask and a suit to match. the bar is closest, and, in the end, that's where he winds up.

just in time to overhear a stranger, swirling orange juice in their cup, speak up about the whole thing. he should probably ignore it, but- there's nobody else around, and seiichi would die if he didn't get to talk to someone, he's sure.

His mumblings should not quite go unnoticed, though Xuying could genuinely not tell whether or not he actually intended for such to happen. Did he want to have his complaints be heard, or would he prefer to be like old man yelling at cloud for his displeasure with an event he semi-voluntarily agreed to go to? Huh ... how curious. But fact only is that he is faced with a person now, dressed in purple and tip-toeing the line of obnoxious and picturesque, with a Lyrancroc to fit the whole show. His own Pokémon are in their balls with no intention to put them out, to be honest, though that is mostly for the party's safety and less because of them. He wouldn't even want to think what shenanigans the shiny Rotom would be up to ...[break]

Still, he offers a friendly smile to the other, humming, "seems fair enough. What would you say is the most fun part about it, then?" In the end, it does seem like if nothing else, the stranger enjoys dressing up for the occasion, and probably has the money to do such as well. Not necessarily things he can relate to, to be honest, but then again, that possibly makes it only more intriguing, if the other is down for a chat. Hopefully he doesn't get the idea to dance or something ... oof.
